I've been absent

I've been a bit absent recently. I'm having a bit of a blog identity crisis. :P It used to be my escape from the world of university. It used to be a place to share the oh so many things going on in my head, but my head is now full of work. And I would so love to fill this blog with all my work stories and things, but I'm not really sure thats what I want...so I'm just sorting my head out. I hope to maybe make some room for creative dreaming again, and then I can start sharing all that awesomeness here again. I'm travelling back to Geneva soon, so hopefully there I'll have time to chill. :D

In the meantime, a work story. Today during group time we sang some songs. Since I was in one of the pre-school rooms I decided they could choose the song, and the child that chose the song could stand next to me and help lead the song. We did 'ABC' and 'Twinkle twinkle little star' and then one kids asked to sing Adele. I wasn't so sure what to do, so asked him to sing it for us, he sang this:

He only sang the bit up to where she gets into the "we could have had it all", at which point he said it then started over again. He sang it SO well, it was instantly recognisable as an Adele song. It was cute. :)

My Life in Song - Rumour Has It

Rumour Has It - part of our South Africa soundtrack. We listened to her soundtrack pretty much the whole trip. So now, most of her album makes me think of our last trip to South Africa, but most of all this song.

101 Dreams - Dream 30

Dream 30 - Awesome Dining Room.
Not that we really properly have our own place yet, but I love to daydream about how awesome my lovely daydream house will be. I don't think I have an exact style I'm loving yet, but these are some rooms I really like. :)
Love the idea of a sofa at the dining table.

Darling Harbour

Recently, James and I had realised that we haven't actually been properly into Sydney for AGES! We've been in to Central to catch the bus to Canberra, and I had been in for work when I was working in the City Centres, but we haven't actually been in to the City. So today we went to Darling Harbour and the Queen Victoria Building.
It was lovely to get out, and I forgot how much I loved Darling Harbour. It's so so gorgeous. It was a really lovely. :) Whilst we were out I tried some new photo app things I downloaded to my phone, here's what I got:
Durham! :P :)
A gorgeous day. I think we will most definitely be going into the city more often now. :)

My Life in Song - Never Forget

I was made aware that last Saturday was College Day. Ah, College Day, how I miss thee! I miss being in Durham in general. My time there was filled with SO many happy memories, I loved it, would not have changed it for anything. Hild Bede (my college at Durham) has the unofficial (not in Latin) moto of 'Never Forget' and at the end of pretty much every event they played this song. It is now strongly related to my time in Durham now.

I will never forget.

Work work work

Just some more stories from work...because I would like to remember them in the future. :)
1. Two girls at the centre are from Ireland, well their parents are from Ireland. The oldest is in one of the pre-school rooms, so I thought I'd ask her if she was from Ireland. Her reply? "No, Mummy comes from Granny, and Daddy mumble mumble. Me and *sisters name* come from Mummy, when she was married."

2. Child: "My mummy is going to pick me up soon"
Me: "That's exciting, what is your mummy's name?"
Child: "Mummy."

3. Kids seem to confuse my name with Kacey.

101 Dreams - Dream 4

All found on pinterest.
Dream 4 - Visit Japan.
It seems like such an awesome place, with so many beautiful gardens and generalness. James was also born in Tokyo, so it would be kind of cool to visit just for that...plus I hear there is a Disneyland there, anywhere with a Disneyland is a must for visiting in my mind!

So beautiful. :)

Wrong Direction

Last week the Footy Show (a show in Oz about the footy...I actually quite enjoy it, but shhh) made fun of One Direction, because they were at a game here in Oz, yada yada. This caused some girls to write in upset at how they had made fun of One Direction, because they are awesome and don't deserve it, and how the Footy Show should apologise. So they did, in the form of the video above. It is so wonderful I had to share. :)

More stories from work

source
I do love my job, the children are wonderful, the staff are wonderful and it's just wonderful. I thought I would share some more stories, ones that have made my week.

1. This week I am the Toddler float, which means I am working in both Toddler rooms, back and forth. I don't mind this because (a) I get to spend time with my favourite little Toddlers and (b) I love the staff in both rooms. In the older Toddler room is a little girl who is totally awesome! She has the BEST imagination ever, and is downright cute. She will rarely come to the centre as herself. She is dressed as a normal little girl, but she can be a couple of different Pirates and apparently sometimes she comes in as a dog (which has a name, but I have forgotten it). This week she has been Captain Firebeard. I drew her a picture of 'Captain Firebeard' at the drawing table. He had a fire beard (duh!), a pirate hat with a skull and cross bones and a spike on it, a yellow outfit, 6 belts, a hook and a peg leg. My original 'Captain Firebeard' did not have all these things, most importantly he was missing his peg leg, so I drew him again. She LOVED it, took the drawing with her everywhere all afternoon. She showed pretty much everyone, and was SUPER excited about showing her dad. She is seriously cute.

2. Captain Firebeard and a couple of other older Toddlers enjoyed capturing me with hula-hoops, and then dragging me to a prison. It was quite hard to walk with hula-hoops around me knees, but I made it to the prison. I was then burnt by Captain Firebeard, I assume with his/her beard, and then locked in jail. I would then break out (after some subtle hints from the Toddlers to break out a.k.a "Run away!") and then chased. I love playing with Toddlers.

3. A couple of weeks ago I had the chicken dance stuck in my head. I was sitting outside humming it too myself when one of my little Toddlers turned up and asked what I was humming. So I explained, and taught her the chicken dance. She seemed to really enjoy it. This week, she came up to me and specifically asked for me to do the 'chicken song'. Made me smile.

Toddlers can be super difficult, probably the most difficult room, but they are so cute and loving. :)

Neutrals

Seen on pinterest, uploaded by user.
With my work outfits having to be made up of black clothes I have been liking all things neutral. I also like neutrals because they make me feel calm, and calm makes me happy. :) So here is my collection of some of the neutral clothes I am loving at the moment. :)
Lovely leather bag from Kookai.
Totally awesome fringe boots from Free People.
Gorgeous Agate Slice necklace from Peruvian Connection.
A skirt I am tempted to wear (I'm a trouser person) from Zara.
And finally this ever so comfy looking tunic from Peruvian Connection.
Are there any colour palettes you are loving at the moment?

101 Dreams - Dream 31

Dream 31 - Eat at the Fat Duck.
I don't know how long Heston Blumenthal has been a totally awesome chef, but I fist heard about him at uni a couple of year ago. I have loved him and what he makes. He is so awesome and seems to have such a HUGE passion for cooking. The Fat Duck for those of you not in the know, is his restaurant. Someday I would love to eat there, just to try one of his wacky dishes. :)
I mean, seriously, how cool does that look?

Brunch

We made some yummy brunch today, because it's Saturday. Bacon, eggs, avocado and flat bread stuff. It was super yummy and a lovely way to start the day (after an awesome sleep in).

We went to see Simon Amstell last night at the Factory in Enmore. We weren't entirely sure what he would be like at stand up since we'd only ever seen him on Nevermind the Buzzcocks, but he was good. His show was called Numb, because he's started to feel numb about life and what he/we do with our lives, which is somewhat what I feel like on my down days. He made the discussion about it funny, with the exception of some points which were actually quite sad, the rest was funny though. :) A good night out. :)

And today a sleep in, brunch and a lazy day! Yay!

Quote to Inspire #33

Sorry about the fuzzyness, found on pinterest.
This is a little poster I found a while back on pinterest, but it is also a little poster up on the wall where I work. I find myself inspired every time I read it. Hope it brings you some inspiration too.

Some stories from work

Source
I shall spare you all any rantings from work (James knows I had quite a few things to rant about this week...) because while ranting can be fun it's just a bit too negative for the mood I'm in at the moment.

Things that made me laugh:
1. A while ago, whilst we were playing outside, I noticed one of my toddlers was scrapping his shoe on the floor funny, so went over to check it out. He had green paint on it. I then noticed green paint on his face, and hands, and bike...where was this green paint coming from? I looked over to where children had been painting in the morning and see another little boy painting the poles with paint. I go over to him and ask what he is doing. "Painting a smiley face" he says... I take the paint off him, do all my telling off, then take the two boys to wash their hands because they are pretty green. The bit about this whole situation that made me laugh was when they decided they were the Hulk because they were green, and started doing Hulk noises and 'flexing' their muscles. Boys can be cute.
Actually, boys seem to love superheroes. We get so many Batmans. I call all the kids dressed as Batman 'Batman' because most of them are from the pre-school rooms and I don't know their names. It's quite funny how many respond to it.

2. During lunch one of the girls was saying she was a boy. This upset one of the little boys on her table, who started a little argument with her over whether or not she was a boy. The situation got sorted. The little boy, however, was still upset that the girl thought she was a boy so told her "You can't be a boy, because only boys play rugby and cricket!". He was dead serious. I was laughing, then looked down at him and he was not happy with me, which made me laugh more. At the age of 2 or 3 this kid already thinks girls can't play sport...oh dear!

3. Later on the same day, after play time outside, we had all the children from the toddler and pre-school rooms sitting in a circle whilst most of the staff finished tidying up the playground. Whilst the Toddler staff (myself included) were getting the toddlers to line up at the gate to go back inside one of the pre-schoolers jumped up. He lifted up his top and started thrusting his hips, and then he yelled "Sexy and I know it!". I was speechless.

Those are the only 'funny' things that happened at work. The kids do a lot of cute and funny things, but I think I would probably bore everyone with my ramblings about it. They are all getting cuter, but I think thats because they are liking me more. They know my name, they'll come running to me if they are scared and one of them screamed my name when she had an accident in the bathroom (she also gave me a kiss on the cheek for helping her, seriously cute). I won't be in the toddler room next week because both permanent staff will be there. I think I'll miss the kids, I might have to go in for a little visit. I do get to work with the babies next week though, and I do love babies, plus nurseries are so much calmer to work in. :)

I'm going to be sad when my 6 months is up.

Long Time No See

I loved that Canberra has seasons, Sydney is kind of seasonless. Plus having my birthday in Autumn . :)
I've been gone for a while, well a week, and that makes me feel bad. I feel like I have neglected my lovely little blog. I've actually felt like I've been making my blog more of a routine than something fun as well...so I'm working on changing my mood about it. :P
I worked a 5 day week this week, normal for many people, but with the bus there and back it means I have only 4 hours awake at home. And I have been choosing not to spend on my computer as much. Just for this week. It's been a lovely week, I have LOVED being back at work. I love the kids in the toddler room, they are adorable, annoying at times, but adorable. :)

Anyhoo, I'm starting to feel like my head is starting to go all mushed up and confused...I know, I make so much sense...so I thought I'd share some photos from mine and James' little 'holiday' last week. :)
We visited the lake.
I shouldn't take photos looking into the sun, bad look.
Much nicer with some shade. Adore this photo.
We walked to see the sunset on two occasions, it was super cloudy and pointless one of the evenings, but lovely on this occasion. :)
We also went to watch the Brumbies again. They played MUCH better this time and we got to see 4 tries in one half, awesome. :)
Yeah, so when my brain is functioning properly (I have picked up a cold from the kids...and an interesting TV show is distracting me) I shall share some funny stories from work/ramblings from work. :P

I hope to get back to blogging again. :)

A glorious day

By the Canberra lake, taken on my phone.
We went for a lovely drive this morning. First we went to admire all the awesomely massive and beautiful homes in Canberra. There is a street with seriously awesome homes on it, and then a whole lot of gorgeous streets nearby. All the streets are lined with lovely big trees, which are all turning red for Autumn, was gorgeous! We then drove up Red Hill to have a look out from up there, and then off to the lake to sit for a bit. It was really glorious weather today, so quite a lovely little outing. I love days like these. :)
