Thursdays is for dresses.

I love the look of dresses, and skirts. I do, however, find jeans and trousers so much more comfortable...mainly because there is no risk of revealing certain parts of yourself unintentionally. SO! I have made Thursdays my dress and skirt days, meaning every Thursday I HAVE to wear a dress or skirt. :)

I've done 3 weeks so far, but have only started taking photos this week. I am enjoying it, and actually starting to like dresses. I tried looking for more, because at the moment I have about 2 that I can wear for daytime, but I am quite picky about styles and sleeve lengths and everything. I think I definitely like strappy sleeves! So I'm getting somewhere! :P

I'll be back next Thursday with picture proof of my dress/skirt wearing. :)

Mattia Bonetti

So, as part of my blogging more I am going to try post about some decorations, interior design or paintings I quite like. Today is the work of Mattia Bonetti. I can't find a website for his stuff particularly, but some of his things were in Elle Decorations and after some searching...well, I found that his stuff is pretty awesome! Very creative.
I love the use of interesting shapes, the way the eye gets drawn towards them. If you google image his name...loads of inspiration. Really nice...man it just draws me in. Seriously seriously cool. I do especially love the broken necklace picture up at the top. :)

As an extra, a photo of my wallpaper up, the new vases and flowers I bought and my green nail-varnish. It wouldn't let me send it to James...so voila. :P
Talk to you later! :)

Sometimes I miss the Mountains

I read my mums blog this morning, she updated about snow! SNOW. In October in the Mountains...and not really the very high mountains, we're talking about 1500m. So I had a little look myself. It's so pretty....sigh...I do love the snowy mountains (if I am in the warmth with a nice fire, a big cup of coffee and friendly chatter).
The weather here is rarely as pretty as in the mountains, I doubt its rarely as cold...but the house...THAT can be cold, so it's nice that the weather doesn't get too cold or else I think we might freeze to death!

Time to do some work on my dissertation...still trying to figure out what exactly I want to focus on. My head is having a hard time doing any work with such an open choice!

Harry Potter and the Age of Illusion

There has been quite a bit of press around this new module. It has mainly been positive, although some think it a waste of time and just seem quite bitter. I thought since there was such an interest in the module (I have had quite a few friends ask me about it) I would blog my experience of the module here...being one of the MANY students taking part. It will be my experience and what I feel about it, so may not match others opinions, but I will try and avoid lying about what went on as some sources have. (The BBC announced the first module had taken place 4 hours before it had, it also mentioned broomsticks...but since they had witnessed something other than the lecture taking place it is no wonder they saw objects which were not present...)

So...the first lecture. We have been told that had they been able to the filming of the Great Hall in the Harry Potter movies would have taken place in the Great Hall of the castle in Durham, unfortunately this meant it being out of use for longer than Durham could allow. However, the Great Hall of Durham Castle provided a great place for our first lecture. Many students (more than I have ever witnessed for an Education module) turned up to the Great Hall...first having to show identity to quite a few Prefects dressed in robes. We had been informed we should wear robes/cloaks and a fair amount of students did, one students had a wizards hat, a Gryffindor scarf and a Hogwarts folder as well (needless to say he was VERY happy to be sorted into Gryffindor later). We all sat down at the looong dinner tables within the hall (Castle students are so lucky to be able to eat in there every day...it's REALLY nice), and sat a little bemused at this extravagant lecture. We were then introduced to the course and the sorting began. Students names were called one by one to come forward and be sorted by the power of the bag of marbles. (Some students are convinced it was really Mr. Richardson deciding where they went...we will never know). There was a lot of clapping and many happy faces...except those perhaps put into Slytherin. There was no booing, but students definitely did not seem to pleased. I myself, however, had hoped to be put into Slytherin so was very pleased to have been sorted there, not least because green looks really good on me!

At the end of the sorting Mr. Richardson's son was sorted too. It was his birthday, and by the fact that he was wearing a cloak and hugging a Hedwig doll (and the fact that in the last two years we have been told numerous times by Mr. Richardson) it was obvious he was a huge fan, and of course was put into Gryffindor.

The sorting was a lot of fun, but also served as a point for thought. How often are we just randomly sorted? Can the houses represent universities? Durham Colleges? What does being a member of a house do to our identity? How do we feel about the sorting? There has obviously been a lot of thought put into this module, and I can see it will be a lot of fun as well as thought provoking. :)

Our first proper lecture discussed whether the module was fit for study...and who should decide. Who do you think should decide what we study? Do you think the module is fit for study?

We'll find out...I better be off now to write about the strengths of my house. :)

Coming soon...

It's been a while...a very long while...but internet in Geneva disliked me, and then we had no internet in Durham, so it's been a bit impossible too!

I REALLY want to get blogging again, and I am going to sit down and plan a permanent spot for blogging during my weeks (I like routine), so hopefully in the next few weeks I will get into the habit and be a happier person because of it! I have all sorts of plans! I would love it if I manage them all! :D

So watch this space, posts will be coming soon. :)

Internet/computer suckiness.

Since my computer is making it VERY hard for me to do most things on it without INCREDIBLE patience I will not be updating much/at all until internet awesomeness is restored/I get a new computer...so it might be a while!

I do however promise to during this time come up with interesting weekly things I can post about to make up for this seriously lack of posting. :)

Until the internet forgives me for whatever evil thing I have done to it,
Toodle.

Tumtitum

Yesterday was sunny, like most of this week has been. Stupid sun. I do not have a summer wardrobe, please hurry up with the cooler weather! Hehe. Anyhoo, saw a cute like gecko, we see a lot of them...generally scurrying off to hide. So I thought I'd take the opportunity to take a photo of this little guy. :)
:D AUTUMN! It's here, there a conkers on the ground...well there was this one anyways! :D Made me happy. Did anyone else randomly collect conkers every year and then not know what to do with them?
The kitchen is also coming along! It's looking REALLY nice, very exciting! It's VERY shiny, but that's cool. :) Hehe.

Today is sunny again, so I am staying indoor to avoid the sun. :P Trying to get stuff done. Typed out things I want to put in my personal statement for PGCE, also e-mailed John to ask him to be my referee. Tried to read stuff about the Rose Report, Cambridge Review and the new curriculum but my head just isn't focusing so I've only managed to bookmark pages! I feel like I may be slowly getting somewhere though! Possibly...back to trying I suppose.

Koalas belong in the trees.

The Koala was looking a bit bored sitting on the wine bottle the other day so I took him out to the trees! :D I think it was a fun time all round! Hehe.
He's so cute!! :)

I have not been playing around in trees today, no siree. I have actually been doing stuff! :O What? I know, I can't quite believe it either. BUT I have made a very late start to dissertation research, and looked at applying for PGCE...since I am again graduating next year. So I have a little list of things I need to do...I just don't feel like I can do them yet, like I have to do some more research or buy a notebook or something. :P I have been working though, so YAY!

Elle Decorations

On the LONG train ride back to Durham this Easter I bought myself an Elle Decorations magazine to kill some time with. I have since loved the magazine. I have not bought many copies, but the copies I have looked at are so filled with inspiration and totally awesome furnitures.
Yesterday we bought 2 copies, one of which had a few pages of sofas. My favourite of these was Confluences from Ligne Roset. Oh my!!
Not only is the sofa really cool but so is the whole website! I recommend a visit if you want some serious interior design fantasies. :)

Hiya!

We went up to the mountains again this weekend, and I took lots of pictures again. I will post them here when I have the patience to do so...which is not today. Hehe.

I really really want to tidy my room today...but I have a feeling it may not get done...ho hum, life goes on!
It's Wednesday tomorrow, which means my mum is off work and we can go into town together! Yay! Someone to shop with, and eat with and talk to! :)

Toodles!

Wouldn't it be nice...

Today James told me that if we had a song, you know like people think couples should, that whole: "It's our song" stuff... (Sasha spent maybe a whole week trying to get me to find one) well that this should be it, because the lyrics are so true.

I don't know why, maybe just because it's the Beach Boys, but I always thought it was a happy song. I suppose in some ways it is, a bit, but not much. :)

It would be nice.

Mountains

We spent Saturday in the mountains. :) I do love the mountains when the sun is shining and it's nice and warm and there are all sorts of pretty things to take photos of. Whilst my dad slaved away in the kitchen (we do help occasionally) I feel like I enjoyed quite a pleasant day. We played a bit of Bridge (our new favourite card game) and I took lots of mini walks to photograph flowers.
I love the wildlife/nature up in the mountains, it's so very pretty. We had a bbq for lunch, due to the lack of kitchen, and mine and Sarahs favourite summery side dish, tomatoes and mozzarella with basil oil. Mmm mmm mmmm. It photographs quite nicely too, I think it's the lovely vibrant colours.
After lunch I wondered around taking photos again, there's no stopping me when there are pretty things to photograph. The day was just so beautiful.
THEN, COWS! Hehe, we could here them from the chalet, so out I was once again with my camera. They were very pretty cows, all gingery, it looked so nice with the blue blue sky and green green grass. :)
There were babies too, unfortunately my camera ran out of battery before the smaller calves came down. Oh well. It was a lovely day in the Mountains nonetheless.
We went to a wonderfully awesome bbq in the evening, and that's all I will say. :)

Cheer up.

Ehehe. :) We took some crazy photos yesterday and I thought I'd share them to help cheer me up.
I'm having some trouble deciding what to do with my life. I think I've become so used to getting approval from people when I make a decision that now when I don't get positive feedback I start doubting my decision instead of standing my ground...so in a sense I don't feel like I have my own strong opinion. I do, I just feel like it falls apart when I don't get the response I was expecting and then it takes me a while to get back to my opinion.
Anyhoo, fun photos! Sarah and I had fun yesterday afternoon playing cards and taking photos, here are some of the results. :)
My "photo shoot" or "paparazzi" moments:

Autumn?

Where is Autumn? Ok, it's starting to be just 20 degrees, which is much nicer than 30...but still. I want to wear Autumn clothes, hats, jumpers and all that. I am mentally in Autumn, so it's a bit annoying waking up every day to sunshine. (I've just managed to complain about it being nice out...)

Anyhoo (which is NOT in the dictionary you know), I've not really had the best start to the day...could be why I am complaining about the weather (seriously, how English am I?). I went out to get some lunch, and potentially shoes. I had to be quick because I didn't want to leave the kitchen guys in the house alone too long. Well, the boots were both expensive and made me feel fat...I'm not sure how boots can make you feel fat, but these ones did. I am thinking I may have to give up on finding some nice and comfortable boots. That put me in a bit of a downer...I get down when my shopping plans aren't going as planned...retail therapy has the opposite effect for me a lot of the time. I got some lunch, and then managed to break a glass when I got home. Fiddly shelves! Yep, good day so far! :P

I am happy though, yup yup. I had a yum lunch, and should be having a fun evening tonight, so all is good. :)

But seriously, could Autumn weather PLEASE hurry up?!

Oh my!

Found at weheartit.com.

AWESOME tea set! Hehe, from one of my favourite movies. :) I have such an internal dilemma, the child and adult in my are always fighting over what I should have. The child in me REALLY wants this.

I would like to...

I have around a month until Uni starts again and I'd like to do quite a few things in that time. Some ideas aren't quite sorted out in my head, BUT I do know I'd like to sort out flights for next summer, organise my photos (ie. put all my favourites and REALLY nice ones into a folder and organise into categories) and maybe sort out my iTunes. AND sort out getting back to Uni, that would be useful!
Once I am back I have a few other things I'd like to sort out, but I'm not going to bother myself with them yet. Hehe.
I started filling in my 101 Dreams book last night, I have almost 50 dreams so far. It is nice to be able to write down any kind of dream you have and then maybe see if they are possible to achieve. :)
Thats all I have to share for now. :)
